How Las Vegas Is rapidly Becoming The Place For Outdoor Enthusiasts And Endurance Athletes
When a lot of people think of Las Vegas, they consider a place that is over the top with neon lights, casinos and gambling and drunken bachelor parties. The Vegas that is known as Sin City and that never sleeps is also near some of the greatest outdoor adventures and scenery that you may ever realize according to a Las Vegas DUI attorney. Outdoor enthusiasts as well as endurance athletes that enjoy competing in Ironman distance triathlons are now realizing Las Vegas as a great spot for all of these things. This article will describe a few of the great places to partake in hiking, biking, and boating in addition to a triathlon which was dubbed as the toughest course in North America by a Las Vegas DUI lawyer.
Lake Mead is the largest reservoir in America and is so big that there are several marinas located on it. There are several fun water activities you can particpate in on Lake Mead from swimming, water skiing, boating and exploring. It is located on the Colorado River and is approximately 30 miles outside of Las Vegas. There are quite a few hotels to stay on Lake Mead but one of the favorite things for people is to rent a houseboat and sleep and enjoy the lake on that for a couple of days. After spending time on the Lake, make sure to check out the Hoover Dam as it is quite interesting to see up close and Lake Mead was created by the Hoover Dam.
Another fantastic outdoor area to see is called the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Park and is somewhat closer to downtown Las Vegas as it is only 15 miles away. In fact, you can see some of the red rock formations from the Las Vegas strip. This park has stunning red peaks and the largest one is named Keystone Thrust which is 3000 feet high. The highest point in this park is known as La Madre Mountain and is 8154 feet high. When you go in the park, there is a visitor center and it is recommended to stop in there initially to get a trail map and maybe some helpful tips from a ranger on the different activities here.
Hiking is obviously a favorite activity at Red Rocks as is biking. Many people cycle on the loop road on their bikes is a one way loop that takes you through some gorgeous scenery. Rock climbing is also a wonderful activity to do here and if you want to stay in the outdoors, they also have campsites there.
The Las Vegas area has become a favorite place to host triathlons of every distance. The great year round climate, the access to Lake Mead and the excitement of Las Vegas bring in triathletes from all over the world to compete in a race. The hardest triathlon there is named The Silverman Triathlon and is a full Ironman distance in addition to a half and is very challenging traveling across the desert and into higher elevations too.
