Three Reality Shows That Have Competitions For Inventors And Entrepreneurs To Make It Big
Whether you enjoy it or despise it, reality television is a popular thing right now on traditional networks as well as cable networks. There appear to be new ideas for reality television being pitched frequently and a lot of ideas seem to come in groupings. A few years ago there were some programs that showcased inventors or possible entrepreneurs in a competition where they had to market their invention or idea to a panel of judges. The ultimate goal was receiving enough money or the opportunity to have your invention becoming patented by a patent attorney or patent lawyer and having the access to advertise and market your invention to make it a success. This article will look into some of the different reality shows that dealt with this concept and how they worked.
The first program is named American Inventor and is a reality show based on a competition to be named America’s top inventor. This show is similar to the British show known as Dragon’s Den and is produced by Peter Jones, Simon Cowell and the producers of the hit show American Idol. The show had 2 seasons with the first one showing in the spring of 2006. The first winner, Janusz Liberkowski invented a child safety seat that used the concept of a baby being secure in a womb concept. The second winner was firefighter Greg Chavez that created the Guardian Angel which was a fire suppression system for Christmas trees to reduce the number of fires being started during the holiday season. Both won $1,000,000 worth of business support and counseling, business resources and cash.
Another reality program was called Made in the U.S.A and is the concept of the USA cable channel who is working alongside with HSN to create a terrific prize package. This show will go through the different steps that inventors have to go through trying to get their invention or concept out to the public and to become successful. The winner of this show eventually, will be able to market their product on HSN in front of millions of viewers and have the ability to make an amazing amount of money by presenting their product on the successful home shopping show.
The final reality program is named Shark Tank and that is the most recent show of the three to be created which also follows a similar prototypethe ideas of the Dragon’s Den and produced by Mark Burnett. This show will offer entrepreneurs the chance to pitch their idea to 5 multiple million dollar tycoons hoping to encourage them to give them the money they need to make their concept come to fruition. The timing is perfect with the difficult economy and the difficulty getting loans right now from banks or lenders.
These reality programs appeal to the viewers that has often said, “Why didn’t I think of that”? It is amazing the ideas and inventions the contestants come up with which makes it a hit. The inventors are usually as interesting as some of their concepts too.
